Changing Roles

At some point in our lives, many of us will need assisted living. This may mean we move in with one of our children. After years of independence, we may find ourselves making numerous adjustments. Consider the following questions before making a final decision:

Have I exhausted all my options to continue living independently?

  • Live-in help
  • Visiting home nurse
  • Part-time domestic help
  • Senior apartment complex
  • Meals-on-Wheels

Do my children have room for me? (A private bedroom is needed, if possible.)

Do I have to relocate to another city?

Will I have to leave my friends and church family?

Can I afford to contribute financially to help with expenses? If so, will I have enough personal funds left to meet my needs?

Can I contribute my services to help the family, if necessary?

Am I compatible with all members of the family?

Can I fit into the schedule and lifestyle of the family?

Can I maintain my basic independence?

Will I be allowed to surround myself with my own bedroom furniture, pictures, etc.?

Will I have access to privacy during the day and evenings?
