Senior Adult Ministries is Alive and Well in the New Millennium!

Early indications from this year's ACMR (annual church ministries report) show that there is an active Senior Adult Ministry in 42% of Assembly of God churches reporting! The number is astonishing and shows an increase from last year's figures!

We are hearing marvelous reports from across our great fellowship in reference to what the Lord is doing in the hearts and lives of senior adults. To God be the glory!

Older adults are the fastest-growing segment of our society—growing faster than the national population rate. Experts refer to this "senior boom" as the AGE WAVE! At the turn of the century, life expectancy was 37 years and there were only 3 million people who were 65 years of age and older. Today, life expectancy has more than doubled to 75 years and there are more than 35 million who are 65 years of age and older.

The question we are facing is: "What is the church doing to reach and minister to senior adults?" The church must realize that the call of God upon one's life for service is for a lifetime, not just retirement. Senior adults are a reservoir of resources providing wisdom, experience, dedication, commitment and capability. Pastors see their tremendous sense of worth and value, and need to find ways to involve them in various volunteer ministries.

Our fellowship has been blessed with thousands of these valuable and resourceful men and women. And now, the Assemblies of God Department of Senior Adult Ministries is preparing to offer challenging programs to this incredible wealth and power to minister to their specific needs. We want you to help spread the news!

This exciting ministry to adults fifty years and older addresses not only a growing group in our fellowship but also in our nation! America is aging, and as adults enter their golden years, we are preparing to take advantage of a golden opportunity to enrich and challenge lives.
